No. I did not open a patio bar... but what a GREAT idea!
Here's the thing.
I live in Singapore. Tropical Paradise.
I want an outdoor livingroom for my lovely deck.
I searched high and low. I saw many items I liked. A lot of furniture I looked at had no prices. When I asked how much something was the clerk would look me up and down before offering a price. Frankly, when someone does that I think either a) Dude wants me BAD or b) He's making the price up on the spot.
Verdict: I found that the prices in Singapore were way too high for something that is made a hop, skip and a boat ride away: Indonesia.
As if reading my mind QB Furniture 'friended' me on Facebook. I checked out their online catalogue and LOVED. I emailed with the company about an order, but hesitated. Ordering furniture from overseas seemed risky to me.
So - off to the shops I went... again. Many sales clerks checking me out and giving me prices. $2000 for an outdoor couch... ouch.
Well, QB didn't have a showroom here but I swallowed my skepticism and did a 50% deposit online bank transfer to Jakarta.
Now, I wait. They are building my Oasis.
It takes time to build an Oasis.
I get the email that the furniture is ready, pictures included. YAY!
They forgot to factor in shipping costs.
QB makes good and finds a company to import.
Pacific Concord Forwarding Pte Ltd. They call to confirm my delivery date and to invoice me for the 7% duty. $106 SG. Perfectly acceptable. BUT [don't ya just love a big but?] They inform me that they will deliver ONLY TO MY CARPARK. I live in a landed property (Singapore talk for a house), I have, essentially, a basement with a flight of stairs to my deck. I explain this. No can do. The lovely woman on the other end of the phone tells me that the big burly men will NOT take it up my stairs.
I respond with 'OK. Well, I guess I will eat a very big breakfast so I can have the strength to carry my furniture up the stairs all by myself.' Yes, the sarcasm was laid on pretty thick.
She says Ok.
Cocky me, thought a wink and smile to the delivery men would get them to take it up the stairs...
So - me, (in my cotton NafNaf LBD) and my nanny hoisted it up ourselves. [and I had no breakfast either]
All this furniture.... at a US cost of roughly $1300.00! Shipping was another $1300 (approx) US plus $106 SGD for duty. Even factoring in exchange and shipping I am still basking in the glow of a wickedly amazing deal!
Would I do this again? Yes. With QB Furniture I would.
My thoughts on the furniture?
Everything was received in good order.
The telephone sofa is really cool! But... really big! However, I LOVE it - it just takes up a lot of my deck. The furniture is light so aside from the telephone sofa needing two of us to manuevre, I can rearrange my outdoor livingroom around as much as I want.
Whose coming for Sangria?
