Beauty review: I.Myss and Luview

By Andrea Claire · December 23, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

On the left you see me fresh out of the shower; in fact, I am only wearing Dermalogica's Skin Smoothing Cream - literally. *wink*
On the right you see me after I had applied Luview Whitening Capsule BB Cream under my eyes - amazing the difference already!

I love the English translation (it's a Korean brand): At the final stage of the skin care, take appropriate volume and apply for light pounding*. Makeup base and foundation are not required to use separately.

The light pounding is making a reference to the I.Myss Foudation Stamper that vibrates.

Next step was using Luview Crystal Cover BB Cream applied using the I.Myss for a light pounding... Really...
I made fun of this stamper when the press kit arrived- I do actually see the benefits - for the makeup aficionado the results are similar to a stippling brush only a little smoother. As a makeup artist I can't see this going into my kit as it's hard to clean the pad going face to face, and I'm a germaphobe. - but for personal use it's amazing!

That's it - the two products here. I didn't do anything with the lighting - the sun must have poked through the clouds this second... yes I was potentially flashing my boobs to neighbours at the window. It's ok - I have a penthouse - no one can see - nor would they want to.

I love the coverage of the products and it does not feel heavy at all - in fact I have seen an improvement in my skin's texture - it's smoother and brighter. The shades available are very limited so if you are darker than I am you are out of luck.

All dolled up and not so naked wearing Luview Whitening Capsule BB Cream, Luview Crystal Cover BB Cream, Naked Palette by Urban Decay , Luview Gleam Full Long Mascara, Warm Soul blush by MAC and a hint of Cameo Lip Glaze by FACE atelier.

The Luview mascara is like the Becca and Blinc's mascaras where they last 24 hours without flaking or smudging but come off with warm water. I am not a fan of this mascara type in general but if you are - you'll love it. I hate the way it comes off with water - I always feel like they tug on my lids.

Grad Photo Beauty 101

By Andrea Claire · March 19, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

You may remember that my daughter Sage and her friend Vivien made an appearance on my blog when they went to prom and suckered me into dolling them up then. Well, congratulations to them both! They have made it through the year a) remaining friends and b) graduating high school!!!

And as with prom, Sage and Vivien took advantage of me again to get them ready for their grad photos.

Dear All Young Ladies: Keep in mind these photos are forever and mainly for your parents to celebrate the inevitable; you're moving out!!! You are not going clubbing so keep your makeup simple and clean.

First in my hot seat: Vivien.

Vivien uses Proactiv on a regular basis which has left her skin very dehydrated. I based her skin with Dermalogica's Skin Smoothing Cream and Multivitamin PowerFirm under the eyes. I advised Vivien that she needs to exfoliate and take care of her skin. Overly dehydrated skin will show aging prematurely; it is important to Age Smart. If you don't exfoliate regularly your skin will look dull and makeup won't apply as smoothly as it could.

Makeup on Vivien:

Dermalogica's Treatment Foundation in 1G layered with FACEatelier #4.

High Definition Liquid Concealer $20.00 at Smashbox

NARS Bronzing Powder, Casino $34.00 by NARS at Beauty.com

M·A·C Powder Blush in The Perfect Cheek (not as shown) $20.00 by M·A·C at Bloomingdale's

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner $19.00 by Benefit at Bloomingdale's I know, quelle surprise - I use it all the time.

RMK Ingenious Natural Eyes in #7

I layered two mascaras:

L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes $8.99 by L'Oreal at Target

Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Waterproof Mascara $7.99 by Revlon at Ulta

Clean & Clear Lip Balm

Sage's skin is smooth because she steals my Dermalogica on a regular basis when she runs out of her own. I based her with Dermalogica's Active Moist and Multivitamin PowerFirm.

Makeup on Sage:

Bobbi Brown's new BB Cream in Light

For Sage's massive dark circles Armani Beauty Master Corrector-2 $36.00 by Armani at Barneys New York

NARS Bronzing Powder, Casino 34.00 by NARS at Beauty.com layered with

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick - Pink Quartz $39.00 by Bobbi Brown at Sephora

Urban Decay Naked Palette $50.00 by Urban Decay at Macy's

I gave Sage the same mascara and lip combo.

School Photo Tips:

 • Don't over-do it. You aren't clubbing. [ I know I said this earlier so I'm just driving the point home]
 • Check your teeth, inner eyes for goop, comb your eyebrows and tame flyaway hairs
 • Look for your light - the photographer will guide you but keeping in mind, the soft box of light will have diffusing effect on your skin, an added benefit to hide imperfections.
 • Powder your t-zone only as the glow to your skin is pretty.

Now go get a job or a UNI degree!

Valentine's Beauty

By Andrea Claire · February 10, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

V-Day. Love it or hate it- there is no running from Cupid's bow unless he slaps your ass... seriously, this happened to me on a blind date.

Picture this: Girl/Boy [actually woman/man], blind date: Snowy park, icicles hanging from the trees, moonlit; taking a cute little dog for a walk.

Romantic right? Pffft, anything BUTT... My 'date' was walking so fast, I called out sarcastically 'I apologize as I can't seem to keep up with your pace.'

He stopped. Waited for me to catch up

and then...

Proceeded to smack my ass telling me that I could 'make it up to him later'! Seriously. It happened. So NOT kidding. Wish I was.

I left. I bet he is still single.

I can't tell you how to behave on a date. Hopefully the above anecdote will give some guys an idea of what NOT to do.

While you're at it, buy her a vacuum cleaner... [image shared via EpicMakeup's FB]

Beauty wise, I can help you out. Here are some tips to get you from A to V [Day].

In February our skin is rejuvenating from the dryness of winter, give a gentle helping hand in restoring the lustre and texture while evening out skin tone. Choose a base that has both coverage and healing qualities. Try Dermalogica’s Treatment Foundation. Apply with a foundation brush for an air-brushed quality skin.

Why not get NAKED! The coveted palette by Urban Decay can be used for all your beauty looks from sweet & innocent to trashy vixen to naughty secretary ... sorry I mean 'naughty administrative assistant'

As if getting NAKED the first time wasn't enough... NAKED 2. [PS Thanks U.D for your invite to your recent artist event here in Singapore... Oops! I mean 'not'... I give you loads of love and you show nothing in return. Oh, well. I try to show unconditional love...]

Save water, shower with a friend! Whether rekindling the fire, on a first date set or after a successful date *wink* get luxurious tangible skin with The Body Shop Chocomania collection, from body scrubs to shower gels to body butters. With a universal appeal, chocolate tempts and tantalizes the senses.

Before you pucker up, lacquer up. Date night is a great night to get all dolled up, whether with an old or new flame; just remember – unless you are dating Joe Dirt, eat like a lady and choose your meal wisely. If you are wearing dark lip colors avoid the rack of ribs. The grease in the ribs will break down your makeup causing it to smear and bleed. Try NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils

Today there is more focus in the manicure department. Women are more than ever seeing nails as an accessory that is the perfect polishing to any outfit. You can opt for a simple manicure or why not ask you nail tech for the latest ½ moon manicure done in contrasting colors? A pink ½ moon finished with red or a MINX manicure in Red Cheetah or metallic hearts on red (shown).

Need a gift idea? This is a MUST see. All you need is a pair of his underwear and your face. Never bored with the artofdoingstuff

Reality / TV Star Makeup DIY

By Andrea Claire · March 24, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

So you wanna be famous? Already are? A-B-C or Double D- list? If you are A or B you probably have a makeup artist....

Hopefully a good one.

When people like Snooki give beauty a very bad mane - I mean name... you have to wonder: Are we losing our style?

photo: Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi Promotes Snooki Slippers Line At MAGIC Convention

Judging from this recent photo, even Snooki realized the error of her ways.

Joan Rivers, who is a pulled a little too tight has opinions on what not to wear but really as a member of the Fashion Police she needs to give herself a ticket.

And finally... what inspired this blog.

photo: Traci Melchor via Jody Daye's Facebook page

Jody Daye, a good friend / fellow makeup magician and I just had a Facebook public display of horror over beautiful Traci Melchor's TV appearance. Traci is a well known TV presenter in Canada. All I can say is 'What was she thinking?!'

Jody's thoughts:

For me its all a little 2-
Too much hair weave/piece
Too much contour
Too much earring
Too much Animal Print- Giraffes are afraid of that blouse
Too much try...

Poor Traci. We are here to help.

I found this image online.

Dearest Traci: This is lovely. The other - ditch it. You are too young and beautiful to look like an Auntie.

Now - Jody and I are no slouch when it comes to TV appearances. Both of us have a lot of behind the camera and on-camera experience. I am sure I can speak for both of us when I say - we aren't always perfect. Well, Jody has no kids and a little more vain than I so... maybe he is perfect.

If you are going on TV... whether it's your first appearance or your last, inspire your TV glow from Ms JLo herself. Nothing says Hot Damn - I'm gorgeous like the famous JLo Glow. Her makeup artist needs a beauty medal. Troy? Is that you?

*Fake lashes IF they are NOT plastic are fine IF you know how to put them on. Brown lashes are easier to blend into your own lashes. Ardell has nice real hair lashes. Why not the plastic ones? They are heavy. They reflect light. They are ugly.

*Eyebrows. Eyebrows. Eyebrows. So many mishaps and misshapes. Best to not apply them without a lesson from a Brow Guru. There is a fine line between well-defined and Drag Queen. If you are Drag Racing, please, carry-on. If you are a woman, put the brow pencil down and walk away.

Everything else should remain OFF your face unless done by a professional or if you have been taught to do your makeup on the fly by a pro. You need to understand lighting and tv cameras and with the world of 'everyone is going on tv' these days - keep in mind:

 1. Less is MORE
 2. Wear SPANX

That is all.

PS. Or you can just hire us to make you pretty. ;)

Get The Look: Purple, Grey and Gold Smokey Cat Eye

By Andrea Claire · December 8, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Many times makeup can be inspired by things around us or even at our feet.

Cats, for example; always at our feet and the cat eye is one of the more dramatic 'I want!' looks for eye makeup.

There are so many versions - this is mine from a recent shoot I worked on.

Lovely Olivia was one of our models on a recent jewelry shoot. Day one we went with a very beautiful simple look; day 2 was drama... in purrs the cat eye.
